The idea for this image came out several straplines developed for the pirate fishing campaign which are shown as stamp graphics on each image. The well known food photographer, Simon Wheeler, kindly gave up a day of his time and I rushed around borrowing fish, props and even some blood from the local butchers to make this work! I’m pleased with the final result – I think the disconnect between the stylish & romantic table setting and the mutilated fish served on the plate is shocking but also very beautiful. It’s certainly an arresting image.
Photography by Kate Eshelby. I first met Kate when working on the Ecologist magazine and she also kindly allowed use to use her images for free.
I worked as a volunteer for the Environmental Justice Foundation for 3 months. I developed concepts and helped create all aspects of the new ‘Pirate Fishing’ campaign to raise UK public awareness of the issue. This included strategies, printed design material, logos and web concepts.
